Visit the oldest shop in Norway by the coast of Trøndelag

Hopsjøen (established in 1730) was one of Trøndelag Coast’s largest trading centers in the 17 – and 1800s. There were four churches and two fishing villages.

International relations

Learn about Nils Rosing Parelius (1753-1799). During his time this place blossomed.  International connections were established with freight boats of fish products going to France and Spain. Back they transported manufactory, spirits and wine, salt, sugar, tobacco and fruit.

Advertising Signs

In the museum part you will find a great collection of ancient artifacts from the retail sector. Here are one of those rare advertising signs of the Freia Boy and other unique advertising signs.

Night sailors

The local old boat organization “The Night sailors” have their base at Hopsjøbrygga. The Night sailors take care of old wooden boats and help to preserve coastal culture.

Hopsjø as a place for trading was active with few interruptions until 1953. Norways oldest general store is located here, whereyou can shop even today. The restaurant “Landstryker’n” provides excellent dining. The Hopsjø Festival is arranged in week 29 each summer.

Hopsjøen is located at Melandsjøen Hitra, 17 km from the county center Fillan.
