Glow, joy, prosper

Put in some days at Åfjord (2 h from Trondheim), you can experience the fjords, mountains and the coastline on the same trip. You will find both a coastal and inland scenery. The community center Årnes is ideal for shopping and the market square show our history roots to the Åfjord boat and the coastal culture.

Salmon fishing

Åfjord is known for salmon fishing in Nordalselva and Stordalselva. At the Fredmoen Salmon Fishing Museum you can see how the English lords lived while they were here in the summer months a hundred years ago.

Åfjord church was built in 1879 and is located just off Årnes. Close to the community center is Åfjordhallen (sport hall), Åset Primary School and a football field. Try it out! The motto of Åfjord municipality is glow, joy and prosper!

On top of the mountain "Solfjellet" you will have a good view of the fairway and the islands Linesøya and Stokkøya. There is parking just off the road about 15 kilometres in the direction of Stoksund

Viewpoints

Close by Årnes is the mountain Mælanakken (351 meters above sea level). Follow the path from the bridge on the southern side of Årnes. On the way to the top, there are several viewpoints where you can stop and rest. You get a good view of the southern part of the municipality from here. On days with good visibility you can see far out to the ocean.

Stoksund

Innlandet, Revsnes Harbak, Stokkøya and Linesøya are places on the nothern coast of Åfjord. The road from Årnes to Stoksund is an attraction in itself. Here is coastal scenery with mountains and sea with picturesque bays.

Standing at the bridge “Stokkøybrua” at around 4pm you will see the large coastal liner “Hurtigruta” passes beneath you as it goes further out in the narrow strait between the mainland and Stokkøya. There are several marinas in the area – by Coop Stokkøy and Stokkøy Marina. Harbak is known for the famous Harbak Cave, but is also a favorite spot for rock climbing and bouldering.

Åfjord has six protected nature areas.  Take a tour in the protected areas – respect the flora.

Hiking

The area at Momyra in the valley “Nordalen” is suitable for hiking both in summer and winter. Momyra is one of the entrances to the mountains at the interior of Fosen with Dåapma and Finnvollheia as the highest peaks.

At Harbak in Stoksund there is a marked trail up to the famous Harbak cave and also a marked trail along the rocks by the sea. At Stemma at the island Linesøya there is an area with remains of fortifications from World War II. Maps, books and suggestions for tours are available at Åfjord Tourist Info.

Biking

There is a bike trail from Revsnes, Kirkholmen, Stokkøya to Linesøya. Along the way there are information signs and picnic areas. Årnes – Lauvøya (the green island of Fosen) is a great tour of approx. 36 kilometres trip / return. Stop at Dragseid archaeological area for sightseeing. Also from Årnes you can ride up the valley Stordalen by the lake Stordalsvatnet. By the end of the road you will find yourself in an areaa with beautiful mountains and rivers.
